Castilla-La Mancha, Spain
Bodega Finca Coronado
Finca Coronado is owned by the De Gregorio family of Finca Allende.
Located southwest of Castilla La Mancha in the region of Campo de Calatrava.
Campo de Calatrava is one of the hottest and driest areas in Spain. The
vineyards reside at 2000 feet in elevation and are planted to a mixture of
Tempranillo, Cab Sav, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdout and Graciano. Each
variety is harvested and vinified separately since the moment of ripeness
may vary as much as a month from variety to variety. Harvest occurs at
night and the winemaking is in stainless steel ageing occurs in barrels.
Throughout generations the De Gregorio family have been cultivating
vineyards and olive groves in this arid, hard and forgotten land. In 1986
Miguel Angel de Gregorio began to resurrect the winemaking history here with
an adaptation to the viniculture here with the knowledge he has accumulated
over the last 25 years with the goal to maximize the potential of this land.
