Fosso Corno
The Biscardo family owns Fosso Corno and has been producing wine since 1897. Originally in the Veneto great grand-father Terenzio Biscaro was the first to cellar and bottle wine and grand-father Pompilio Biscardo was the first to begin exports to Germany and Belgium. In 2001 Augusto with son Marco and daughter Sabrina bought the estate in Abruzzo and began renovating the vineyard in 2002.
Fosso Corno is a 30Ha farm located in Roseto Degli Abruzzi in the province of Teramo. From the hill tops of the estate vineyards you can see the deep blue Adriatic Sea to the east and to the west are the mountains of Gran Sasso. Both the warm Adriatic and the Gran Sasso create the climate in this part of Abruzzo. 21 Ha are planted to Montepulciano and 4Ha to olive trees. Abruzzo is dominated by large COOP's and commercial wineries, but the Biscardo family is slowly building a name for quality Montepulciano. Montepulciano dates back 1200 years to this area and has adapted to the arid Mediterranean climate; at Fosso Corno it's dry farmed and produces very dark and robust wines with moderate plus acidity. There's a small amount of Merlot planted at the estate that has show tremendous potential for blending with Montepulciano, also Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are grown and blended to produce a very aromatic and crisp white.
