Bodegas Avanthia
This winery is a new project between the Gil family of Jumilla, Bodegas Godeval and Jorge Ordoñez. It is located in the mountains next to El Barco de Valdeorras, in the province of Orense (Galicia), in the northwest of Spain. The 35 year-old Godello vineyards are located on the mountain slopes, and are
therefore in terraces. The composition of the soil is of metamorphic slate,
although you could find granite in other vineyards of the appellation. Planted at
1,350-1,650 feet (450-550 m) above sea level.
The two very old Mencia vineyards,70 and 85 years old, planted on vaso system
on the hillsides facing south on soils made of decomposed black slate and
quartz located at 550 m (1,800 ft) above sea level.
