Argentina

This is the page description.

Altos Las Hormigas was founded in 1995. It was one of the first producers of Malbec to make enormous strides in quality, in Argentina. The driving person was Antonio Morescalchi who set a very high bar of quality for the estate. The investment has always been in the vineyards in the "Primera Zona" of Lujan de Cuyo. Vineyards were planted between 1996 and 1999 with the best clones of the area. Great emphasis was focused on improving viticulture and farming methods to realize the tremendous potential of Malbec from Mendoza.

The winery was completed in 2001; at this point the dreams of Antonio's team really began to take shape. With complete control over production the quality of the wines marched forward again. The estate vineyards are getting older and 14 years of experience before today's "wave of Malbec" have both contributed to making the wines better and better. Today Altos is one of Argentina's leading producers. Antonio considers themselves Malbec specialists; you do not see Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and other varieties produced at this estate simply to satisfy market demands in the USA. Malbec is king of Argentina; it has adapted to the unique growing conditions of Mendoza and makes wines that are truly unique. Altos also produces small quantities of high quality Bonarda, which has proven to be a great variety of Mendoza over the last 150 years.
